2024 was my freshman year and during the second semester of the school year i joined the Robotics team in our school. It was a very new experience for i never had any proper experience doing robotics before but i decided to make the most of it and make sure I get something out of it. After joining i quickly established myself as a great leader, often being tasked by the Captains and Leads to do Tasks that would be on the robot and not everyone else on the team could do. This built up my reputation in the team and a year later was one of the Key reasons i became one of the Mechanical Leads on the team
After the 6 week build season we had gone to our first comp in where we won the award Engineering Inspiration and that automatically allowed us to qualify for the world championship In Houston. However the building wasn't done yet since we had another regional before we could go to the competition. So I continued to establish leadership and partook in the tasks assigned to me by the higher ups.
When we went to the next competition it had been clear that that the new tasks that had been done were effective and had us performing well. Although we didn't make the final matches we did great and performed well enough to be in the playoff matches. This competition was a fun experience since all of the team weren't too stressed with the performance since we all got the Opportunity to go to worlds in Houston anyway.
Off to worlds we went. Add the championship i saw many different robots and designs and learn quite a bit from the mentors. These teams all had complicated designs and used many different types of parts that were completely foreign to me and my team. The experience was fantastic and I had learnt lots about how to design in general. Additionally to the Robotics floor there was the Lego league floor and the First tech Challenge floor. All of which were just as complex.
At the end of the world championship i had a newfound interest in design and engineering and would love to pursue it even more closely for the years to come.
